Microsoft FrontPage - Creating a New Web Site on Your Hard Drive

IMPORTANT: You will need to login to your Windows 2003 Control Panel and enable your FrontPage server extensions before you can use FrontPage. Be sure to write down the FrontPage username that will be presented after your enable your FrontPage server extensions. We have a tutorial on this here.

Here are the instructions on how to create a new web site on your local hard drive. The screen shots below are of Microsoft FrontPage 2002 but the web creation process is the same for all versions of FrontPage.

1. First you will need to open Microsoft FrontPage. Click on File / New / Web (as shown below)

2. A new window will pop up with web site templates. You can select one of the various templates. We do not support SharePoint. For the purpose of this general tutorial we will just select an Empty Web. On the right side of the window you will need to specify the location of the new web. This is where the files will be stored on your local hard drive. If you have already created a folder you can click on Browse to find the folder. If you have not already created a folder you can simply type in a location (as show below) and the folder will automatically be created. Once you have selected the template and the web location then click Ok.

3. If you selected an Empty Web then FrontPage will create an empty web with only two folders (images and _private as show below). These are typical folders in every FrontPage web. 

4. Now all you have to do is to create the pages in your web site and you will then be ready to publish your web to our server. Below I have created a simple page and named it index.htm
